This should be the last 2026 Midterms election post and it is one that definitely needs to be said.
Many, many moving pieces came together to allow the stunning Tuesday result.
The students who marched.
The voters who waited in very long lines.
The voters who didn’t leave after the polls closed because they were already in line and eligible to vote.
The many people who worked the phone lines, calling people to encourage them to vote.
The many people who worked the polls, even though I wasn’t able to get through to be one of them.
The people who wrote postcards to send to others to encourage them to vote.
The quality candidates that were fielded for us to vote on.
The people who voted straight democratic ticket for spite.
And people too numerous to name.
Don’t forget counting is still on going. In Mississippi and in Alaska and in other races that are too close to call.
I had anticipated it was going to be a long week. And it is.
However the numbers end up lining up, the general populace needs to thank all of these people.
I would say don’t piss off the students, but I can’t argue with the results.
It was the students who marched while cheering after their campus polling places were denied who were the face of this election for me. It is my hope that they always remember why they mattered in this election and continue to be politically active.
As for me, I already have my poll worker application in for next year and my ticket for Nurses’ Night at the Legislature in Raleigh, NC in February. Because the Blue Tsunami was the first step of a long climb to protect democracy.
I’m ready.
