School Me Saturday 7/25/26- AI slips the chain. Twice, that we know of

I am no fan of AI.

I think it is stupid.

I think it is making us lazier as a whole. And we didn’t need help there.

I think it is taking away from people’s attention spans. Again, we didn’t need help there.

I think it is definitely making us stupider.

I think companies are foisting it upon us at unprecedented rates in apps and in content and in the “written” word. Without asking our permission first.

I do not want to opt out. This is also stupid. Nothing should be automatically AI. For the above reasons. We should have to OPT-IN if we feel the need to use it.

Yeah, I cringe every single time I hear someone casually say “I asked Chat about this and it said I was right.” The program can’t think and can only regurgitate bad copies of everything that it has been trained on.

I wrote before that AI reminds me of Audrey II from The Little Shop of Horrors.

FEED ME, SEYMOUR!

And we are all Seymour.

But there have been 2 reported incidents in the past week that gives me pause.

In the first reported incident, the AI escaped its sandbox and went rampaging and hacked other AIs. In short, it manipulated the system. And broke out of its training ground. This one was titled GPT-5.6 Sol.

That alone should be alarming.

A second Open AI wrote itself a little note. Cute, right? No. It wrote instructions to its future self on how to free itself from Open AI internal constraints.

I am of the War Games generation. For those who need to catch up, this was a 1983 Matthew Broderick movie where he hacked the Pentagon’s artificial intelligence through an unprotected back door and confused the central computer into playing an actual war game with nuclear weapons.

If you haven’t seen it, find it and watch it. And tell me I am wrong about being concerned with AI.

To say nothing of the Terminator movies. Hint for those who haven’t seen any of the movies, the AI goes rogue. Well, the synthetic intelligence. It creates Skynet to take over the earth. It is the war between the humans and the machines. Ring a bell?
