The poster abstract is in. I had it written, I thought I should just submit it.
The procedure was a little different than years past. What I wanted to submit, the creation and use of a Call Bootcamp for new nurses, didn’t fit any of their boxes.
That’s okay. I’m a bit of a round peg in a square hole myself.
Nothing about my trajectory as a nurse makes much sense.
This is why I call myself a Utility Nurse.
Work a regular shift, take call all night, and work the regular shift the next day? I’m your nurse.
Helm a committee with a dread of being on camera or speaking? I’m your nurse.
You need coverage for your uncle’s birthday? I’m your nurse.
Wind me up and see how far I go.
I don’t know any other way to be.
That’s okay.
Being available for others in the department that need me is how I interpret being a nurse.
And that’s okay.
