The presentation abstract is in. On to the poster abstract

Continuing last week’s post about exciting things coming up for Call Bootcamp. I dd print out the SIXTEEN posts that I wrote on Dispatches from the Evening Shift on Counting Basics. I will be putting them in a folder and handing them over to my bosses in an effort to explain counting to them. I will also be working on an article proposal for somewhere, not sure where yet.

but first, I submitted the story of call bootcamp to the 2027 AORN EXPO for a podium presentation.

In conference speak that means you are on stage, behind the podium. Giving your presentation on the subject that you submitted the proposal for.

My favorite thing about this is that these are ALL OR nurses and I don’t have to translate a thing!

We speak the same language.

With different dialects for sure.

After all, a Heiss retractor on the East Coast is an Alm retractor on the West Coast. Look them up, they are practically identical. Personally I think the Alm retractor was named because it looks like hands outstretched for alms. But that is just me. Don’t get me started on Mayo clamp versus Hemostat clamp vs Kelly clamp vs Pean clamp. They are just shades (sizes) of the same instrument.

Wait, wait. I cannot get distracted.

First 2027 AORN EXPO proposal is done. It was due May 31st at 2359. And I submitted it May 31st at 1500. Early for me, you know.

But I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t hedge my bets.

I am now reworking the same abstract into a poster proposal.

I’ve had better luck with poster proposals.

Once I learned the secret sauce.

Just kidding. There is no secret sauce.

AORN sent me an email wanting us members to tout our own horns and put in proposals about what we’ve been up to individually (or by hospital). In a poster proposal. This is in addition to the 5 emails I got in April and May about the presentation proposal.

The poster proposal is due July 19th at 2359. But since it is mostly written already, that should not be hard. When I get back from our June vacation. My own personal hard deadline with be the first of July.

I would not anticipate hearing/reading whether or not they were approved until October. At the earliest. I could be pleasantly surprised.

Ooh, I just looked in the future and saw that after 2027 the next TWO AORN EXPOs will be relatively nearby. Atlanta in 2028 and Nashville in 2029. Got to get started on research/poster ideas for those conferences.

I do appreciate that AORN is not holding the EXPO in Orlando. You know, because a lot of us complained about the state politics. There is a reason that I skipped last year’s EXPO. In Austin, Texas. And this year’s EXPO in New Orleans. Hm, I wonder why I did that?
