In no one’s fever dream could the recalls of summer 2026 be anything but a joke.
Lettuce. Through much of the country. For cyclosporiasis.
Cilantro. For cyclosporiasis
Jalapenos. Salmonella.
Guacamole and dips and salsas containing jalapeno. Possible salmonella contamination.
Eggs. Possible salmonella contamination.
Frozen fruit bars. Possible glass in the bars.
Pico de Gallo, stuffed mushrooms and soup-mix. Possible salmonella contamination.
The list goes on and on and on.
But now there is a new player to the field.
A player no one saw coming.
A dark horse, if you would.
Fiberglass contaminants in Baxter Normal Saline bags. And, not to be discounted, Lactated Ringer’s bags.
Both of these are commonly used intravenous solutions in the hospital.
There are also reports of injectable medications with glass particles contaminants.
But the IV bags should draw the most attention.
These are sterilized.
But any contaminant in them can go straight into a vein or even an artery and straight into someone’s circulatory system. Do you have any idea how small some of the tiny veins and arteries are? An unexpected contaminant such as fiberglass could cause a blockage. Which can lead to pain and suffering for the patient.
The idea of a recall is nothing new.
Hell, I’ve even read reports that what we are experiencing this summer is not any worse than it was last summer.
Sure, by numbers. What about by severity of the recalls?
This list was compiled from FDA.gov/safety-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts.
It is good that these kind of lists exist to warn the populace.
But, maybe, just maybe, stop putting corporate profits and cost cutting above the health of the public?
As a nurse, I would appreciate it.
